Thanks to all who attended the screening of Joseph Ryan's film 'Home'.
It was a great night, if a little chilly in the cinema, but certainly a good introduction for all to The Surf Screen.
Joseph's film can be purchased direct from: http://surfingdvd.co.uk/shop.php
The next film we will be screening is Mick Water's 'Believe', a beautiful account of all that inpires us in surfing. The screening will be at The Royal in St Ives, 7pm on March 4th.
Hope to see you there!
Hey Guys

Thanks to both Joseph for making the film and The Surf Screen for exhibiting it. I have watched my dvd copy since and it has me soo excited about traveling to Oz. Maybe I will be able to follow in Joseph's steps, maybe I can also meet the guys? Maybe my boyfriend might not be so keen on the last bit?
Anyway, can't wait until the next screening, I've been telling everyone.

I really liked the film Joseph, it's pretty rare to see such performance longboarding done to such a high standard over here.
What films are you working on?
Will they be focused on longboarding?
Will they be shot in Australia?
It would be great to see another one on the big screen, soon.
Good luck with it all.

Hi everyone, glad you are posting, Joseph and I will aim to answer all questions asap.
There is a great review of 'Home' in this months Wavelength magazine: "a sweet mixture of performance, old school and contemporary.. stuck together with the finest editing and musical glue..it does everything you'd expect a longboard movie like this to do, only very, very well!"

Well... one of the movies I am working on is a story about a surfer and his journey so far, you could say it is a type of biography. The other I can't let the cat out of the bag just yet, so you will have to watch out for it. They both have surfing from Australia but from the rest of the world as well.

Hey Joseph...
Sounds interesting, are the new films focused on a particular aspect/type (long/short,etc) of surfing?
What were some of the highlights making 'Home'?

Well... The highlights of making this movie would have been:
1. a day when hanging out with Beau Young. It was offshore all day, Beau, Isaac and myself surfed alone, the entire day (That's the bonus when the surf is really good, the guys I am filming get tired, so I get to surf while they feed up and recover) we got in the water before sunrise and got out after sunset.
2. When hanging with Dave Simons, Bonga Perkins and Andrew Logreco, we stopped by a mate of Dave's, in the back yard was this rubber boat. Every bodies eyes lit up at the same time and everyone had the same idea. You see what happened at the end of Dave's section, that went on for hours.
I guess one of the biggest bonuses of the trip is I now know the best spots in each of these guys areas and what swell direction, tide, wind they work on, so scoring more waves these days!!
Ok can anybody tell me where the shark fin appears in the movie? Will be interesting to see if anyone can find it!!

It must be great having the knowledge of all those different spots. I did a bikini photo shoot with a certain surf brand in the Bahamas and we got to see all the best spots when they were at their best. If I ever get back to the Bahamas (unlikely), I'll have the place wired, but it sounds like your local knowledge is much more useful. It's like the gift that keeps giving. I am jealous of you getting to hang out with Beau all day...

Has anyone spotted the sharks fin yet?
You might need a DVD copy to do this and you can get one through the link at the top of this blog.

Yer all the guys were great to hang out with, Beau lives closes by so we surf together most days, and like in the movie we hardly see another surfer in the water (if you know were to surf)
So yes having insider knowledge helps as it is such a big coast line. I have just got back from filming part of the new movie. If you want to keep an eye out, for information on the new movie the best place will be on my www.freewayproject.com website. It will have any news, trailers and my contact details.
Hope your getting waves over there.

We will be able to keep you all updated on Joseph's new projects as this site develops more features. Good to hear that you are busy Joseph, Australia's such a rich source of surf culture and it's great to have chaps such as yourself documenting it to share with all of us.
